2. INT - MACK’S APARTMENT

MACK has just arrived home and revealed to ANGIE that he knows about her past with Sam.

          ANGIE

Mack, let me explain.

          MACK

Explain how you have been manipulating me for months?  Made me think I had found someone to care about again?  When all the while you were playing games with Sam.

          ANGIE

I do care about you, Mack.  That is not a lie.  Sam hates me.  You can’t believe a word he says.

          MACK

Well, Sam was brutally honest with me today.  I don’t even know how he could tell me some of the things he did, but he put it all out there.  Whereas you have been lying to me since the night we met.  Who would you believe?

          ANGIE

I’ll admit that Sam and I were an item in Boston and it didn’t end well.  But he’s convinced my life revolves around him in some way and it doesn’t.

          MACK

I don’t believe you.  And I didn’t want to believe him when he first told me.  But then I thought back to so many of our conversations where I told you things about Sam.  And he told me how you taunted him with those details.  What kind of a sick woman are you?

          ANGIE

Look, I’ll admit that I came to New York to see Sam, but that’s not why I’m still here.

          MACK

Save it, Angela.  Or Angie.  Or whoever the hell you are.  Because I’m not in the mood for your explanations right now.

          ANGIE

You let Sam spill his guts about his sick sex life, but you won’t hear me out?

          MACK

Sam has his own issues.  But they’re not about me or manipulating me for some revenge plot.

          ANGIE

I can’t believe this.  The man is a sex addict who moves from one young girl to another and somehow he’s fine but I’m a monster?

          MACK

I honestly don’t know what you are anymore.  All I know is that I don’t even want to look at you right now.  You need to leave.

          ANGIE

Mack, we need to talk about this.

          MACK

Just go, Angela.  You’ve had your fun and now you can crawl back under the rock you slithered out of.

          ANGIE

Please don’t do this.

          MACK

Get out!

          ANGIE

I want to talk again once you’ve had a chance to calm down.

          MACK

I wouldn’t wait by the phone if I were you.

          ANGIE

Mack, I’m sorry if I hurt you.

          MACK

     (laughs)

If?  IF?  I’ve been such an idiot.  Goodbye, Angela.

          ANGIE

Goodbye, Mack.

Angie picks up her purse and leaves.

          MACK

     (to himself)

Dammit, Mack.  Dammit!

2. INT - 5th FLOOR WAITING ROOM AT ST. MARY’S HOPSITAL

ADRIANA is sitting alone when a distraught ZOEY walks up.

          ADRIANA

Zoey, what’s wrong?  Zack’s not…

          ZOEY

No.  He’s still alive, but the doctor just talked to Wanda and me.  He said if Daddy has any family that is not here and wants to say goodbye, we should get them here as soon as possible.

          ADRIANA

Oh, Zoey.  I’m so sorry.

          ZOEY

There’s one family member missing that should be here.

          ADRIANA

You’re talking about Gregory?

          ZOEY

Yes.  Gregory is Daddy’s only grandchild.  He should be here with us.

          ADRIANA

From what you told me, it doesn’t sound like Perry and Rex are going to let that happen.  I wish there was something I could do, but obviously they hate me.

          ZOEY

It’s so frustrating to be cut off from my own flesh and blood like this.  They might be providing Gregory a good home, but they have no right to keep him away from his biological family.

          ADRIANA

I agree with you, but they are his legal parents.  Unless they change their minds, there’s nothing more to be done.
