1. SAM’S OFFICE AT CHANNEL 6

SAM is sitting at his desk talking with MACK and STACEY.

                   SAM

Mack, can you just give me a moment to finish my talk with Stacey.

STACEY

No.  It’s okay.  I need to get some air.

          SAM

Stacey, I’m sorry you had to find out like this.  I hope we can talk later.

          STACEY

Maybe.  I don’t know.  I have to go.

Stacey rushes out.

          SAM

Look at her.  She couldn’t even make eye contact with me after reading that story.

          MACK

It is pretty shocking, Sam.

          SAM

Mack, I know I’m going to get judgment from everyone I know, but please not from you.  At least not right now.

          MACK

I’m not here to act holier than thou, Sam.  I just want to know how much of this is true.  And now you’re saying you’re a sex addict?

          SAM

I never intentionally had sex with an underage girl.  That much I want you to know.  This girl lied to me about her age.

          MACK

She looks pretty damned young in the picture.  What were you thinking?

          SAM

I wasn’t.  At least not rationally.  That’s my problem.  I get these urges, and I need to have sex, and I do things.

          MACK

Like go to a bar and pick up young girls?  Like create a sex room in your apartment?

          SAM

I know how that sounds to the average person.

          MACK

I’m not trying to judge you, Sam.  But you realize this story could have serious implications on your job, right?

          SAM

Believe me, I know.

          MACK

Look, start from the beginning.  I know today is going to be rough for you but I honestly want to be your friend here.  How far back does all this go?

          SAM

Look, Mack.  I will tell you everything, as humiliating as it is.  But there’s something I need to let you know first.

          MACK

What’s that?

          SAM

It’s about Angie Cartwright.

          MACK

Angela?

          SAM

Angela to you, Angie to me.

          MACK

What are you trying to say?

          SAM

Angie is an old lover of mine from Boston.  She’s only here in New York to make my life a living hell.

          MACK

Sam, that’s crazy.

          SAM

I know it sounds off the wall, but it’s true.  Mack, I’m convinced she met you on purpose to get information about me.

          MACK

We can’t be talking about the same woman.

          SAM

We are.  I know you’ve been seeing her, and think she’s someone you want to date and get to know.  But she isn’t.  Angie Cartwright is pure evil, Mack.  You have to get away from her, while you still can.

1. CASEY’S APARTMENT

CASEY is having dinner at the kitchen table when the telephone rings and he picks up.

                   CASEY

Hello.

CURT

Whatcha doin’, Case?

          CASEY

Dammit, Curt, I told you to never call here again.  Leave me alone!

          CURT

I can’t do that.  We have some unfinished business to take care of.

          CASEY

I’m going to contact the police if you call me again.  I’m not kidding.

          CURT

You’ve always been all talk.  You know deep down you still love me.

          CASEY

You don’t even know the meaning of the word love.  You never did.  I was just too stupid to realize that until it was too late.

          CURT

Don’t talk to me that way, Case.

          CASEY

What are you going to do?  Break my arm again?

          CURT

You fell.  You’ve always been clumsy and you know that.  You can’t blame me for that.

          CASEY

Nothing is ever your fault.  That’s the main reason you’re beyond help.  Ugh, it doesn’t matter anyway.  Just stop calling me.  It’s over.

          CURT

How can it be over when I’m so close to you?

          CASEY

What is that supposed to mean?  If you’re still in New York, I swear I’m calling the cops right now.

          CURT

I’m not just in New York, Case.  I’m right outside your door.
