Episode #19

Setting:  NY Herald – Rex’s Office – Rex is talking on the phone

Rex:  Mack, I’m glad you called.

Mack:  What’s going on?

Rex:  I broke down and called Ellie.

Mack:  What happened?

Rex:  She did what she always does.  She blamed me, and mom and dad for abandoning her.  She always turns everything around.

Mack:  Doesn’t she realize that you guys are trying to help her get her life together?  How many years is she gonna play dive bars and hang out with this late night crowd.

Rex:  She refuses to give up her dream of being a singer.  It sounds good on paper, but makes for a hard life.  And if it didn’t affect us, it would be different, but it does.  Mom and Dad have had to bail her out of so many bad situations.

Mack:  I’ve been around for most of it.  I hate to say it but I’m not if it was a bad idea to cut her out of your life.

Rex:  I know what you’re saying, but she’s my sister.  I wish I had some type of relationship with her.

Mack:  How did you leave it with her?

Rex:  She basically said to call her when I was willing to support her.

Mack:  What does that mean?

Rex:  I think she wants me to support her singing career and never say anything negative about it.

Mack:  Are you willing to do that, Rex?

Rex:  I really don’t know if I can.

 

Setting:  Manhattan Monthly – Raven’s office

Perry:  Raven, it’s great to have you back.

Raven:  Aww, did you miss me?

Perry:  Of course.  How was Richmond?

Raven:  It was good.  I actually brought my little sister Hannah back to New York with me?

Perry:  For a visit?

Raven:  Yeah, she’s gonna stay with us a few days.

Perry:  I can’t believe I haven’t seen you since the accident.  How freaky was this Adriana Cummings?

Raven:  Tell me about it.  Some woman I don’t know tries to run me over.

Perry:  Rex was pretty upset about it.

Raven:  You’ve talked to Rex?

Perry:  I think Rex and I just may end up pals?

Raven:  Really?  You two seem like the odd couple to me.

Perry:  I guess once we talked we realized we have a few things in common.

Raven:  Like what?

Perry:  Oh, I don’t know, family stuff.  Rex has issues with his sister, and I have issues with my mom.

Raven:  How is your mom?  You haven’t mentioned her in a while.

Perry:  Oh, guess what.  She stopped in the office yesterday.

Raven:  What?  Really?

Perry:  She was broke and of course wanted some cash.

Raven:  Was she drinking?

Perry:  She seemed sober, and I wish that she wasn’t gonna to take that money and go straight to a bar, but I wouldn’t be surprised.

Raven:  Perry, I’m so sorry you have to deal with that.

Perry:  She actually met Alexandra.  Thank God she was on her best behavior.  I don’t really want people to know my mom is a drunk.

Raven:  Well, you know you can trust me.  And maybe she’s stopped drinking.

Perry:  I’ll believe it when I see it.

Raven:  Where is Alexandra?  I haven’t seen her all morning.

Perry:  She took the morning off.  Had some errands to take care.  She said she’d be back early afternoon.

 

Setting:  Mulligan’s – Pauline walks up to the bar

Pauline:  Are you open for lunch?

Chuck:  Yeah, what can I get you?

Pauline:  A vodka martini.  And make it dry.

 

 

Setting:  38th Precinct – Mack and Alexandra are in a waiting area

Mack:  Alexandra:  Are you sure you want to do this?  Adriana Cummings is about to be transferred out of here to a psychiatric hospital.

Alexandra:  Mack, ever since I saw her picture in the paper, I have not been able to get her out of my mind.  I think once I talk to her I’ll be able to put away some of the memories of my sister Adriana that have come back up.

Mack:  I’m here for you.

Alexandra:  I really appreciate you not mentioning this to Raven.  I don’t want her to think I’m a crazy woman.

Mack:  She would never think that.  I think you can tell her, but if you want, I will keep your confidence.

Alexandra:  Thanks.

Mack:  Do you want to go in?

Alexandra:  Let’s get this over with.

 

*** Mack and Alexandra walk to Adriana’s cell.  Adrian has her back to them***

Alexandra:  Adriana?

Adriana:  Who’s asking?

Alexandra:  My name is Alexandra Jones.   I came by to talk to you.

Adriana:  I don’t know any Alexandra’s.  What do you want?

Alexandra:  Would you mind coming over to talk to me?  I read about your story in the newspaper and I have had you on my mind.

Adriana:  Who the hell are you?  *** Adriana turns around – Alexandra gasps***

Mack:  Alexandra, are you alright?

Alexandra:  Oh my God. 

Adriana:  What are you looking at?

Alexandra:  Mack, I know this sounds insane but I think this is my sister.

Adriana:  What did you say?

Alexandra:  Adriana, where are you from?  Who are your parents?

Adriana:  Are you a reporter?  What do you want from me?  Get out of here.

Alexandra:  I just want to ask you a few questions.

Adriana:  Well, I’m not answerin’ today.  GUARD.  GET THIS LADY OUTTA HERE.

Alexandra:  Please, if you’ll just let me talk to you for a bit.

Adriana: GUARD!  GUARD!

Mack:  Alexandra, we need to go.

Alexandra:  Mack.

Mack:  Let’s go. 

Adriana:  GUARD!
